Heeello, friend.
Happy first Sunday.
If growing healthy hair is of any interest to you, I presume so is growing or nurturing natural nails - but if I presume wrongly, I wonder why your nails matter any less.
Whether you have any interest in growing your nails long or you just want to have stronger, beautiful nails read on, I have a few thoughts on how to get you there.
Vitamin deficiencies can be the cause of fragile unhealthy nails or it could be the endless layers of acrylic that your nail tech slaps onto your nails every month. Acrylic nails are definitely the leading reason why I have started growing my nails for manicures. I've found a simple gel set (with a rubber base) far more sustainable to maintain healthier nails than I have before.
While I nurture my nails for length primarily for aesthetics, I love that they are finally strong enough to not fall off at the slightest inconvenience. These are the things I did to get me here:
Trimming. Your nails grow about half a centimeter every month, trimming your nails slightly will keep them away from chirping and hooking onto stuff that may cause them to rip further.
Cuticle oil. Like the rest of your body, moisture is important for the health of your nails, cuticle oils always have vitamins that will promote growth but it is also very important to use lotion and/or vaseline to moisturize your hands and therefore nails.
Not using nails as tools. As mighty tempting as it is to use your nails once they're long enough as tools, to part your hair or open things - please resist the urge. You'll be thankful for it in the long-haul. Often it seriously isn't that much work using the intended objects as tools.
Supplements. As mentioned above, you could just be needing supplementary vitamins to strengthen your nails, often and fortunately these can also benefit the growth of your hair - one such supplement is Biotin.
Water exposure. Minimize your exposure to water and it may seem impossible if you're used to using water every single day. Use gloves for tasks such as cleaning using water and for the like.
Acrylics and Gels. OKAY, I'm not a fan of acrylic nails but honestly Gel overlays are not the most commendable either for healthy nails, reality is your could grow better without any artificial additives. So keep both of these out of reach and as infrequent as possible.
Hydration and Dehydration. Keep yourself well hydrated with water, but keep dehydrating products at bay with counter active measures. Products like hand sanitizer will act simply as opposites of what your cuticle oil and lotions will do, so use them at the same time as frequently as you can.
(While all pretty nails display for ladies, gents will have nails just as healthy and with the choice to keep them nicely shortened. Using the same methods.)
Thank you for reading this far, allow your nails a chance to be grateful that you did. Have a great day, love.
Loveee,
Luxe Ledi. ♡
