Our bodies carry us through happy moments and moments of turmoil. Actually, they tend to feel emotions before our minds can comprehend them and those emotions remain in our bodies long after we have mentally processed them. So, even before your mind can register stress for what it is, the tension is already in your body - you'll feel this through sudden tire and lethargy or tense muscles.
Life goes on, whether you are smashing goals or dragging your legs about, but rest is a paramount part of living and wellbeing.
You're not being lazy for prioritising rest, you're definitely not any better for neglecting it.
It's very important to always keep in mind that your worth is not determined by what you achieve in a day, especially if that comes at the expense of your overall health.
Little Things to enjoy while resting.
Light reading: fun fiction, nothing that will require you to work your mind into extreme processing.
A personalized selfcare session at home.
A free walk - no expectations for it, just enjoy your surroundings.
Sleep. I wanted to make this number 1, haha (read further for why it isn't!)
Try making something new.
- Restyle an old piece of clothing.
- Try a new dish.
- Explore a new skill: painting/drawing.
There are so many different things one can do to help themselves from the extensive chore of thinking about what is next on their to-do list.
Rest is beautiful, everyone (at all times) should enjoy rest as a mandatory practice of their lives.
The actual reason "Sleep" is number 4 on my list is because, unfortunately, it can be used as an escape from reality - which is both so addictive and unhelpful. While sleep is the best and easiest way to relax and rest, it can be used to avoid living. Like other signs, this one is on top of my list for when I slip into episodes of unproductivity, sadness and uninspiration.
This is another reason we must choose when to rest for ourselves, if we don't make the decision - our bodies will switch the lights off slowly on us.
